Watson EAD

PRODUCT DETAIL

Watson EAD is an innovative series of Next-Generation Ethernet Access Devices designed for enabling symmetrical highspeed Internet or point-to-point connectivity to business customers on DSL and fiber access links. Watson EAD uses Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) technology, which is a transparent extension of Ethernet-based LANs into wide area networks. No conversion of packet formats is required when
transiting between the LAN and WAN. This transparency greatly simplifies network operations, reduces deployment costs, and increases service levels. EFM includes maintenance functions that make the operation of large wide-area Ethernet Networks feasible.

The Watson EAD series features two SFP fiber ports and up to four SHDSL ports. Symmetrical data rates up to 1 5.3 Mbit/s are available on each copper pair. Using EFM pair bonding, data rates of 61.2 Mbit/s over 4 copper pairs can be achieved. Whereas Gigabit Ethernet is supported on the fiber links and the four Ethernet ports integrated in the device.

The Watson EAD provides high performance wire speed Ethernet switching on all ports with sophisticated Carrier Ethernet (MEF) functionality for traffic management and differentiated services. Schmid Telecom’s long experience in EFM solutions ensures that Watson EAD series delivers better reach and higher performance.
